The Windows XP Firewall
How to Set the Windows XP Firewall.
This page describes how I set my Windows XP firewall to work with Chat-N-Tickle.
This is a simple firewall that allows you to make any outbound connection, but all inbound traffic is refused.
This firewall causes several problems with Chat-N-tickle:
- Your line is always busy when people try to call you, but you can call them.
- People can hear your voice but you cannot hear them.
- People can see your web cam for only few seconds, but you can never see them.
First Get the Name of Your Computer.
Click My Computer > Control Panel > System and choose the tab "Computer Name".
Write down the name given as "Full computer name:"
In the example below, the computer name is "DOUG_DELL".
Second Get to Internet Connection Firewall.
Click My Computer > Control Panel > Network Connections and right-click on "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties".
Click the "Advanced" Tab
Be sure there is a checkmark in Protect my computer...
Click on "Settings".
Using the "Add..." button, add the following five items to the Services list:
Enter the computer name you wrote down above.
Be sure to enter the port number and TCP / UDP selection as shown below.
Note two screens use TCP and three use UDP.
Repeat this for all five screens.
When you are finished, the list should look like this:
Be sure the five new services are checkmarked as shown.
Congratulations on setting up your firewall. Click OK.
